Royal Sovereign Ultra Light and Compact Portable Air Conditioner, 12000 BTU, White, ARP-2412
PROSbr /1. Relatively light for a portable AC at 75 pounds. Reviewers who say it’s too heavy will have a difficult time then with any other portable AC units as they are all heavy, except the smaller Haier 8000 btu model as well as the NewAir models.br /2. Attractive design. I think the Amazon picture does not do justice to the unit. In reality, it is a very handsome looking device.br /3. Strong fan speeds. You can feel a strong breeze further than 12 feet away from the unit.br /4. Fan noise has a clean, consistent white noise characteristic, like a constant whoosh sound, free of any rattling.br /5. When sitting or standing directly in the path of the air flow, the air is very cold. br /6. Self-evaporating if you live in a low humidity climate like I do. Otherwise, you may have to empty the drain pan from near the bottom. You will need a shallow pan about an inch high to do this. I have not had to do this in the week that I’ve been running the unit.br /7. Remote control seems fine but seems like consumer driven uselessness. How often will you really need to use a remote for an AC?br /8. Small vertically mounted plastic tank on rear of unit in which you can fill halfway with water for condensers to be cooled. I did fill it halfway with water and the manual claims it can improve performance. Another reviewer said their mount for this was broken, but mine seems fine.br /9. Does about a good of a job as any 12,000 BTU portable AC with a single exhaust hose can do in cooling down a room about 14′ x 14′. If you read the reviews of most portable AC units, they are mostly all negative on average. I think many have pretty unreasonable expectations from portable single hose AC units. My room is significantly cooler and more pleasant, but does not have that incredible I-just-walked-into-Walmart-or-other-megastore-and-got-hit-with-an-Arctic-breeze quality, unless you position the unit to get hit with the air outflow directly from the AC.br /br /CONSbr /1. Occasionally the unit will “spit” out small bits of water. This is not a big deal for me, but it can result in a small area in front of the unit that will have a perceivable wetness of about 2′ x 2′ in area. It does not happen all the time, but is noticeable when it does occur.br /2. Only 2 fan speeds, and they are both very strong. I wish there were a lower third speed (with lower noise).br /3. Fan noise, although a pleasant, constant whoosh type white noise, may overall be too loud for some people especially in a small room. The unit sounds “powerful”.br /4. The wheels are fine as I have hardwood floors, but on carpet, the wheels may be too small but I am not certain of that. I mention this because another reviewer made that comment. The unit has different sized feet for the front and rear, and comes with extra wheels. I initially thought my unit’s feet came off because these extra wheels sit at the bottom of the package and are not in any bag or separate container.br /5. Although the build quality is very high, the exhaust hose appears to be glued to a plastic ring which then you screw into a window mounting flat slab of plastic. This works fine for now, but it looks to be a weak link in the construction in using this glue. I think it can easily be regaled though or maybe even just using duct tape for reinforcement is fine.br /6. Single hose design is not as good as dual hoses with separate intake and exhaust. This is not a fault of the device as most portable AC units use a single hose for exhaust. If you can, I would recommend spending more for a dual hose machine. Single hose machines exhaust the hot air causing a relatively negative pressure causing hot air to flow into the room from other rooms or small leaks in the building.br /br /Overall I’m very happy with the unit.br /
